Placement Portfolio Requirements

Incoming freshmen students are encouraged to provide a portfolio but submission is optional.

Transfer students must submit a digital portfolio of their work for studio placement. A minimum of seven samples are required and should be submitted in jpeg or pdf format. Include a description of the work along with any project specifications or requirements. Date each piece of your work with the date of completion. A range of work is preferable and can include any of the following:

  • Drawings
  • Paintings – simple digital images are acceptable
  • Photographs
  • Collages
  • Logo design
  • Posters, brochures, advertisements or editorial design that involve typographic applications
  • Any general color or design projects

Transfer Courses –
Graphic Design Department

The Graphic Design Department accepts credits that articulate with the following Woodbury University courses.

  • FOUN101 Beginning Drawing
  • FOUN102 Design and Color 1
  • FOUN103 Design and Color 2
  • FOUN104 Drawing and Composition
  • GDES250 Digital Photography
  • ARTH Art History (any two Art History courses can be transferred)
  • ARTH Art History
  • Art or Design Elective

Transfer students must have a minimum of 30 units to transfer to Woodbury University. An AA degree is not required or necessary. It is suggested that students take a combination of both design and general education courses at the Community College, including Math, English and the Design Foundation courses. Computer Requirements and Services

It is required that all students have an Apple laptop computer that is compatible with existing on campus labs and meets the following minimum specifications:

Students failing to meet the above computer requirements may not register in GD 216 Typography 2 and GD 207 Digital Production. Students are responsible for email and ISP accounts; student owned computers used on campus must have a network, and/or wireless card, depending on where the computer will be used.

The department of Graphic Design has established a free subscription to a multi-user software tutorial service. The lynda.com Online Training Library™ includes such subjects as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Live Type, Office, digital photography, Web design, digital video, and many others. lynda.com’s tutorials provide comprehensive movie-based training to professionals and students which assists in keeping their skills current and supplements their software instruction.
